Located in the heart of Norman, Oklahoma, Greek House offers an authentic taste of Greece that has become a cherished staple for locals and visitors alike. Specializing in Greek cuisine, this beloved restaurant focuses on delivering classic dishes that celebrate simple yet bold flavors, making each meal a memorable experience.
Greek House’s menu is straightforward but deeply satisfying, centered around their signature Gyro Sandwich and Gyros Plate. Imagine tender, perfectly seasoned gyro meat roasted on the spit, served hot and juicy atop warm, fluffy pita bread. Each sandwich is crowned with homemade tzatziki sauce—creamy, tangy, and refreshingly cool—paired with fresh tomatoes and crisp onion slices that add a satisfying crunch and burst of freshness. The Gyros Plate takes this experience further, accompanied by fries cooked in gyro oil for a uniquely savory twist and complemented by their iconic Greek salad, bursting with crisp lettuce, ripe tomatoes, Kalamata olives, and generous crumbles of feta cheese all tossed in a vibrant Greek dressing.
The restaurant's ambiance is unassuming and relaxed, embodying a no-frills, family-run charm that places a focus squarely on the food. Longtime patrons like Michael Yeo describe Greek House as an "iconic and nostalgic place," a culinary landmark since 1995 and a "must-visit" every time they’re in Norman. Whether it’s the excitement of a busy football day or a quiet afternoon, the atmosphere buzzes with genuine community warmth rather than fancy décor.
For those dining with kids, the Childs Gyros Plate and "Kids Plate Add Feta and Pita" options provide smaller, thoughtfully crafted portions, while the indulgent sweetness of their Baklava offers the perfect finish—layers of flaky pastry, honey, and nuts melting in your mouth, delivering authentic Greek comfort. Beverage choices like Ice Tea, classic sodas, or a chilled Corona Extra offer a refreshing complement to the robust flavors on the plate.
Greek House is also popular among Oklahoma University students, appreciated for its quick service and consistently flavorful meals. The staff are consistently praised for their friendliness and accuracy, contributing to the genuine, welcoming vibe that makes guests feel at home. It’s worth noting their cash-only policy, though an ATM on-site provides convenience for non-cash payers.
As Reuben Reyes attests, the generous portions and inviting aroma of gyro meat roasting behind the counter instantly make you feel the authenticity and care that Greek House pours into each dish. While the interior decor might show its age, the cleanliness and homely feel underscore the focus and passion this local, family-owned gem puts into their food. Craniel Zazumba-Zaffodil perfectly sums it up, calling it “one of the best gyro sandwiches in the country” and a true embodiment of Norman’s spirit.
Whether you're stopping by for a quick, satisfying lunch or craving the nostalgic flavors of Greece, Greek House stands out as a must-visit destination that delivers hearty, delicious meals with a side of genuine hospitality.
This is an iconic and nostalgic place for me. First time here was in 1995 and we come here every time we visit Norman. Can’t go to Norman and not eat here. Simply menu just gyros, fries and Greek salad and pita bread. It’s the best that I have had. Limited parking but parking available around the block too. Great place for students at OU. This place is busy on football day.
Always consistent. Great for a quick lunch if you have cash or want to use the ATM. Staff are friendly and accurate when serving food. The decor is nothing fancy and hasn’t really changed in decades if I were the stop and think about it but I also don’t come here to look at the decor and take in the atmosphere. Not where I would want to go on a date but if my date wanted to grab take out and have a picnic and enjoy the OU campus and surrounding area it’s a win.
this place absolutely embodies norman, ok greatness. locally owned, family owned, masterful food served by the nicest of people. the best gyro sandwich i’ve had in norman, and one of the best in the country.
As I walked in I noticed a nice aroma from the rotating roasting meat behind the order counter. I ordered the gyro plate, tea, and baklava. I was given a number and sat and waited. Looking around I could tell the inside decor was a little bit banged up and aged but clean. Order came in short time and the amount of food was huge! It came with gyro, pita bread, fries, and salad. Everything tasted wonderful especially the baklava. The portions were more than I could eat at one seating and had to take some home. This place is less than a block away from OU and is very popular with students. Great place for a quick filling meal.
CASH only. They do have an ATM inside. Got gryo sandwich, very tasty beef gyro, and authentic feeling yogurt/hummus paste.
first place i ever had a gyro 20 years ago and still my favorite spot in norman.
Gyros are wonderful! I always get just the sandwich because they're so big that I can hardly eat the fries that come with the meal. They are STUFFED with meat, tomatoes and onions. Just the right amount of Tzatziki sauce, I watched them make it fresh! Please remember that this is a cash only establishment, but the good news is that there's an ATM right in the restaurant. Definitely a must try, y'all
